It looks like William was born in Graveley Cambridgeshire and married Hannah Smith in Huntingdonshire.

Hannah was born in Gt Gidding Huntingsonshire.

On familysearch.org there is a listing of the Christenings for the children of William & Hannah

All registered Graveley Cambridgeshire

Charlotte, Christ. 25 April 1830
James, Christ. 1832 born 1832
Sarah, Christ. 30 March 1834 born 1834
Thomas, Christ. 1839 born 1839
Betsy, Christ. 20 June 1836 born 1836
Mary, Christ. 6 Feb 1842 born 1841

nothing for Emma

Mary's birth is registered at St. Neots Dec 1841, St Neots possibly the closest Reg Office for the Graveley area it's abt 6-7 miles away

You could try contacting the Cambridgeshire Parish records Office they may be able to find something for William and possibly the Huntingdonshire Parish Office for the marriage in 1828 they may also have further details.

Thank you for your great work

I have already tried them, to no avail, the closes we have came, is a possible connection with a James Spring who married Sarah Weete as teenagers in 1803, but I cannot find a connection to William, but James and Sarah had a child in 1803 not long after their Wedding, but his name was Thomas?, but not knowing if he had name change or what, and we will possibly never know unless I get to find a better link between them

I found it interesting that the Thomas & Martha Spring in the 1871 Census on previous post has children with similar names as William & Hannah

Children for Martha & Thomas Spring

Benjamin 1830
Elizabeth 1833
Mary 1836
Sarah 1840
William 1850
Thomas 1845
Emma 1847
George 1850
Hannah 1850

There is a George & Hannah Spring Christened 16 Nov 1851 to Martha & Thomas Spring in Ely Cambridgeshire, it is possible that Emma is Hannah

There is a marriage for Thomas Spring & Martha Harper 26 July 1830 Soham Cambridge

It could be possible that this Thomas is the son born 1803 to James Spring & Sarah Weete and William was born later.

Thomas died in 1st Quarter of 1881
Deaths Mar 1881
SPRING Thomas 80 Ely 3b 380

Do you have a death for William?? it may be worth while comparing the two, but then again the information is only as good as the informant knows.

There is possibly another brother Samuel married to Sarah, again children with similar names, Elizabeth, Charles, Dorcas, John William, William & Thomas, born Cambridgeshire.
Samuel was born 1806 Cambridgeshire.
Marriage to Sarah Threader 25 Dec 1827 Soham Cambridgeshire.

Hmm, could be, but we still need that anchor point of finding out who the parents are before I can put that connection into place

William and Hannah actually relocated to Herkimer, New York state, USA just after the 1861 census, along with their children, except James, as James migrated to Australia in 1856 with his wife Anne and Daughter Eliza, William passed away on the 2 Feb 1884 at Russia, Herkimer, New York, United States

Thanks Wizard, could not find anything on William, so it is a possibility that he, or one of his Parents changed his name from Thomas to William, and nothing else to go on

by AndyS on 2015-06-27 23:37:26

With the registered Birth of Thomas from James and Sarah, Cams cannot find any other Births to James and Sarah, or births for William, but it could be a possibility that

1 Thomas did have a name change to William, as he does show that he was born on 1803 on his grave

2 A possible chance of a relation of James may have had moved into the area either before, same time, or after he married Sarah Weete, ??

Has anyone got a time capsule??

by AussieSpring on 2024-05-02 12:45:28

William Spring was born Thomas, but had a name change to William possibly at a young age.

There has been no funerals, or death notices that i can find for his parents, James and Sarah Weete, but Jameses dad could be called Thomas, as well as Sarahs dad as per being noted on there wedding day, what ever happened to them after the birth of Thomas (now William)is a mystery, but i believe they may still be somewhere in the Cambridgshire or Sussex area
