Research a la pitfalls

I have worked on my Family Genealogy for five years now, since I got it from my ailing Aunt. What I found is a lot of miss spellings of names, poor research on the part of researchers, bad dates and the list goes on. I have found that keeping good records and affirm with copies of legal documantation, ie. birth and death certificates. Don't take anothers' research as gospel in your research. I spent 3 of those five years looking for the parents of a 5 gen grandfather's parents, It was exhausting to a point of quitting. I got everything I could find on this Grandfather, but I didn't spend the time to really look at what I had. One day I decide to really look at what I had and low and behold I was slapped in the face with a Death Certificate and the name of his parents. After that I found his parent, but then another pitfall. The next generation's name was changed and the next from that. Remember Genealogy is nothing more than putting peices of a puzzle together.
