... Private Philip Jessop (1/235), a member of the Expeditionary Force at Samoa, who had been invalided home, died on his way to the Hospital yesterday evening. He had been staying with his sister, Mrs B. Stratford, at the Croixelles (Nelson) for the benefit of his health. As he did not improve, it was decided to bring him to the Hospital, where he had previously been under treatment. A nurse was sent down on Wednesday, to accompany him, and he reached Nelson by launch yesterday. He was in a critical condition, and died in the ambulance at about 7 o'clock, before the Hospital was reached, it is thought from heart failure. The deceased was a son of Mr Ebenezer Jessop, of Hope

- he enlisted from 25 Home Street, Wellington, his Next Of Kin was his father E. Jessop of Hope, Nelson
- Garfield was KILLED IN ACTION on 27 August 1915 aged 18 (5 months after brother Philip died) in Gallipoli. His memorial is at HILL 60 (New Zealand) MEMORIAL
