Samuel W McGregor: 1879-1880 East Carondolet, St. Clair Illinois/1880 census for same area,

Question by Rawbun

Samuel W McGregor aka S.W. McGregor, was a Constable. According to a short bio. of him, he was listed as the Sheriff there.
He was a male age 51 in 1880. I can not find anymore information other than the census information. I am needing his burial location. He died in East Carondelet, St Clair Illinois. My father had two searches made for him in Bellville but the information could not be found. He was also a resident of Gibson IN. for quite awhile prior to 1879.
Q: Did they keep photos of the sheriff's etc. and does anyone know where else I can search. We got a very good 1880 census and know he married three times. His wife when he died was Mary E Nolan Smith McGregor.
Thanks for your time

Although I can't help with burial information, I wonder if Samuel arrived in the USA from Scotland? I have McGregor relatives who left for Australia in 1883. The rest of the family remaining in Scotland were keen to get away from the unemployment and sickness in Glasgow. One or two brothers of John Mcgregor are rumoured to have left for New York around the same time. Samuel is not a christian name that seems common in my branch of the Mcgregors, but who knows? Happy hunting.

There is a huge Scottish tree here with a Samuel Mcgregor born 1875. You could try a few more. :

Mine is a grandson of Andrew and Elizabeth 'Curran' McGregor. [Their son Robert, had a son named Samuel W McGregor (we think Wiley for a middle name) b: Sep 11 1829 in St Joseph, IN. On two of 'HIS' children's death certificates, it is said he was born in a place called "Mathinwalk" IN.
He is found in the census record for 1880 in East Corandelet, St. Clair Illinois. It is misspelled 'Cardondelet'. He was a Constable at the time. I found a very short Bio. on him and he was Sheriff in 1879. He would have been 50yr at that time. By 1880, he was with his 3rd and final wife.1st was Katherine Gamble M: Feb 28 1856. 2nd was Nancy Bigelow (Ann Clinton?) M: Dec 10 1867. 3rd was Mary E Nolan M: Aug 29 1872. Samuel died Mar 13 1886. It is said in St Clair Illinois but the body was sent to the McGregor Cemetery in Gibson IN near Mackey.
My late father had checked twice with Belleville, IL vita records for a death cert, but nothing was found. I was told on FindaGrave that he would not be listed there if some record of his buriel was not found. I do understand this but....
Are you interested in the McGregor's, or just very kind?
Whatever the case may be, I appreciate you for your assistance! Sincerely. If you can help any further, I of course will appreciate it doubly! Scott, please, if time doesn't allow, I really will understand. I'll be devastated, but I'll pressure here ya know..lo...having fun here.
I do believe he had a Son named Samuel. I'm not positive, but think it may be Samuel C. McGregor? I know it is not Samuel A. McGregor. I will continue to search other sites. It seems to be a hard branch to follow! Thank you sincerely for your reply!
