Hi there,
Abraham's father was Samuel Barrell. Here is Samuel's obituary.

The death occurred'at Mangatainoka on January 5 of a very old colonist in the person of Mr Samuel Barrell, at the advanced age of 85 years. The deceased gentlemen, who was very highly respected all who knew him, was one of the Canterbury pilgrims, having arrived in Lyttelton over fifty-six years ago in the Grassmere, the first emigrant ship. For the past eleven or twelve years the late Mr Barrell, whose wife predeceased him six years ago, had been living with his son, Mr A. Barrell, of Mangatainoka.

This could be the voyage? But no shipping list!

.. the ship Grassmere, from Liverpool to New Zealand, with emigrants, 32 days out, all well.

There are five Barrel burials recorded at Mangatainoka cemetery, Pahiatua.
Samuel and Susan have the following inscription on their headstone: 'Canterbury pilgrims arrived Lyttleton 1855 aboard the "Grasmere"

Hi, yes I am their Great-great-grandson. They lived in Rangiora before moving to Mangatainoka opposite the brewery, then bought land at Totaranui, and retired to Paihiatua. The Barrells did come across on the "Grassmere" in 1855 as previously stated as a family, arriving in Lyttleton before trekking to Rangiora. They were highly religious as was required criteria to get passage in those days. Abraham and Sarah Barrell (ex-Skudder)(married 1876 in Rangiora) moved to Mangatainoka had 9 children, These children were named John, Charlie (MP Hamilton 1940/1950's), Ray, Leonard, Peter, Hilda, Owen, Stella Gertrude (My Great grand mother) and Ruby. The Barrell Parents (Samuel and Susan) moved there to join them later. Abraham was partnered in a butcher shop with branches in Mangatainoka and Paihiatua. Sarah died in Paihiatua hospital in 1927 aged 68.
