Hi Tina.

Congrats on finding a match in the very first U.S. Census. That alone is pretty cool. The bad news is that there wasn't much info in that census. I believe only the head of household is named, right?

Where to go next depends on what info you you got. Have you found this person in subsequent censuses?

Going farther back in time, since you're out of censuses, you'll need to find other records, birth, marriage, and death certificates.

And this is Worcester County? ... Massachusetts I assume? Do you know what town?

Statewide collection of vital records didn't start in Massachusetts until 1841, so you'll need to go to the local city or town for any birth and death records available.

Hi Scott,

I took your advice and have been going through subsequent censuses and believe I have found Levin Townsend, but not his father Lazarus, in the 1800 and the 1810.

This is actually Worcester County Md and unfortunately the court house in Snow Hill, the county seat, burned down in 1844 and 1883 and the church which I believe may have housed records burned as well. I'm not sure if it's the right church, there are others I could check. My brother had researched a family tree and had these names and tentative dates of the year of b. and d. but I was hoping for more info and hoped to go further back. That's why I was thinking graveyards. I believe my brother did all his research online. He is away right now so I have not been able to speak with him.

I figured I'd keep going through censuses for the time being until I can get down to Snow Hill (I live in Baltimore Md) and take a look around. I can also visit my Dad's grave and pray for his help. My parents were older when they had their 4 kids, I sure wish I had asked him about all this before. He was a great historian and story teller, he was a country Doctor as was his father.

Anyway thanks for your advice and if you have any more, I'll take it!

Thanks, Tina
