The 1901 records give the birth dates (hopefully they did not lie).

Also, there are some cemeteries that have the pictures of the tombs.

My Grandmother's first name was Mahala and my mother ended up with the name as her middles name. My mother h... the name. I like the name.

Where in Ontario did they live?

Familysearch.org is another good site. Indexed records are being
added to these records.

Thank you Jackie for your suggestions.

Although I had already been to some of these sites, my search parameters must have been too narrow. Your suggestion of using the Ontario automated genealogy was an excellent one: it triggered the option of concentrating my efforts on a particular census year instead of trying to find this ancestor's death date. That I will endeavour to find at some later date. For right now, having the names of her parents and siblings is a great boost to my research.
