GOOD GRIEF Juliana :) you're right about the lack of records !!!
wonder if Agustus changed his name slightly (or otherwise)?
were Carrie & Annie Austen related ??
Oh Yeah!!! I have tried every variation I can think of for Sergins! My next strategy is to check out the gum digger licensees that the Archives have - I may be able to pick something out there but its a long shot! Yes Carrie and Annie were sisters, there is another mystery sister - Elizabeth Keziah - even less for her than for Annie.
I've just read a bit about Annie's parents and syblings and I think that if she died in New Zealand, the odds are that she is buried in Waikumete Cemetery where the rest of the family are interred.
there were 4 bridesmaids at Joseph's wedding in 1906 and only Mary Jane's daughter Blanche was mentioned. I would have thought one of his sister's would have been one. There is only one sister mentioned in the funeral notice of William, well, 94 Nelson St is and that was Mary Jane's home. and that was as early as 1911. Actually Mary and Caroline are the only 2 who rate any mention anywhere. Usually when relatives die there are a few more funeral notices and they just seem to only have one each and very sketchy as to family.
I can't see any daughter of Captain John clumping around in the mud, maybe they went back to Europe. Or maybe the captain told them if they were going to do it change their names.
Try for the cemetery index first. then maybe naturalisation sometimes when people get naturalised they anglicise their names. .then departures.
Good luck Juliana.
See if you can get a copy of Captain John Austen's will!
I've been all over the place I can't find them!
Got a copy of the will - well a photo it's held in the Auckland Archives. He left everything to Anne - no mention of the children. I have tried the cemetery but no luck with Sergins or any permutation! Thanks I will try the naturalisations. Do you have a connection with the Captain?
