edmondsallan - Good morning all . many of you - descendants of " Arthur Edmonds " may think you know all about him. Some of you may remember him as a great grandad . Good >!! Some of you ( which at one stage I was the same ) may be experiencing , some chasing of the opposite sex ( perfectly natural , wild drinking episodes -? Or a sudden turn along the way into very strong religious beliefs - by your children , G grandchildren < GG grandchildren . Its not our fault ---------it is in the " Edmonds Genes " I always thought that a Good excuse . Next is a true story that took quite a few months to unravel , plus a lot of travel to talk to some very old descendants in the north . As the story came together , so did the proof and everything seem to fit into " Arthur Edmonds " unknown early life as a youth / young man . From several unrelated sequences at the time / or different times known , individually , this true story evovled .
Samuel - William - & Joseph - were the goodie goodie sons of the family in their younger days . Arthur - Henry - Alfred - & John Tucker , were real real devill's in their earlier days . They worked very very hard & they played very very hard . Their rest time from hard physical work , was wine , woman & song . We will in this journal just stay with Arthur . He also got a few beatings from some of the Maori brothers of the young maidens , who were upper class in their thinking . Their was only about 4 families of ' Pakeha " close by - who didn't want to know Arthur in any way . . From the age of
( 12 ) He was with others in his family , doing heavy manual chores . At the age of ( 23) Samuel & Arthur had dug the family well
( freshwater on their fathers property ) over 15 feet and lined it on the inside with stone fitted . Henry - Alfred - John Tucker - all younger were on the top , carrying the buckets of earth , mud & slush away from the site towards the start of the homestead foundations . Their father at this stage , was unemployed , trying to do the farm work , the house and preach , still , to the maori peoples , who went fishing regularly pass their farm . No mean feat, what Samuel & Arthur, did , in digging that well , which ever way you look at it. . Today it has been filled with stones to stop any body from falling in to it . They were also under their fathers guidance doing the major share of the building of their family home .
In late 1844 fighting & stealing broke out in the area and a few weeks before some Europeans had been murderd close by . John , the father decided to get out of their at Paitai inlet home , travel by sea to Auckland . They stayed their till late 1846 . John - & sons -- Samuel , Arthur - William all got jobs in Auckland as storemen . In late 1846, John & family returned to Kerikeri and their partially built Home , except Samuel & William decided to stay in Auckland at their respective positions . " Arthur " now became the Leader of the clan ( sons & daughters ) He was also came under his father eyes , and orders on all the work he must get thro .A position he didn't want . After approximately ( 6 to 7 months -- I couldn't get the actual date from the person I was seeing, as their grand father had past on . The reason they remembered or it was past on down, was because ' Arthur ' had tried to capture one of their tribes young maidens , which caused a hell of a stir up .at that time . Arthur grabbed his ruck sack and took off in a hurry , for a little thriving Gum town , were quite a few " Yugoslavians " were making a go of everything they started . He was sleeping in the scrub in Kaikohe , while trying to find work . He sank a few bottles over a period trying to keep his feet warm & nod off to sleep. It was at this very rough period in his early 20'S , which was 1847 ( he was aged 22 - at war with himself ) trying to learn about life itself and what it can dish out. Somehow he met ' Erana Kaire " ( >> Could not establish the correct dates << ) "Erana " had a whare on the ' Te Ahuahu ' pa - built by " Heke Hone & Kawhiti " on the Hill , just out of Kaikohe . Erana was part of that tribe . I think because of her Son from Mihika - " Mesheck " This is a long unravelling true story & I think we'll take a break . _ till we meet again - Regards - edmondsallan
