... On Saturday evening last Mrs George Gordon, of Dalefield, passed away at a private hospital at Carterton. She was one of Carterton's earliest residents, having been born there 52 years ago. Her parents, the late Mr an Mrs W. Challis, of Carterton, were well-known in the Wairarapa, in the Carterton district especially. For years deceased was organist at the Carterton Methodist Church, and when an organ was installed in the Dalefield Church, nearly 30 years ago, she was appointed organist, which position she voluntarily filled till her death. Six weeks ago she officiated as usual, and the illness seized her which last Saturday carried her away. She has left a family of two daughters and three sons:-
* Mrs H. H. Curry, Eketahuna (Ellen Caroline Ethel, married Henry Herbert Curry in 1911)
* Miss Gordon, Dalefield (Emily Constance, married in 1923 to Roy Charles Anderson)
* Private W. G. Gordon, in Australian Expeditionary Forces, who left with the Main Body, was wounded in Gallipoli and is now serving in France (Wilfred George, served as Private 1206 with AIF, 4th Battalion, 1st Machine Gun B Company. He Enlisted from Sydney. His next of kin was his parents in Carterton, NZ. He returned to Australia 19 July 1917)
* Mr C. S. Gordon, of the staff of the Lansdowne School (Charles Stanley, Masterton)
* Private L. R. Gordon, in the 24th Reinforcements (Leslie Raymond, served as Private 44474 with the NZEF, 24th Reinforcements Wellington Infantry Regiment, B Company. He embarked from Wellington 5 April 1917. Hi next of kin was his father in Dalefield, Carterton)
She has also left a sister, Mrs Arthur Philpotts, Carterton (sister Charlotte)
GEORGE Gordon died 17 June 1934 aged 82
