BADDILEY, NEWALL, HOLMES and LYMN families NZ, AUST, ENG, Is of Man

Journal by Wim

Augustus George BADDILEY (AGB 1st) was born in Castle Donnington Leicestershire England 1828 to Maria BADDILEY. Augustus's father is unknown. Who was the father?
Augustus married Margaret BAIRD in South Australia in 1846. They had a son also called Augustus George BADDILEY (AGB 2nd). There are five genrations of men in the family with the same name. Just to confuse us all! The family eventually moved, in 1861, to NZ after a trip back to England from South Australia. Down the line, AGB the 4th married Roma NEWALL daughter of Joseph NEWALL (his father was from Cheshire and mother from the Isle of Man) and Beatrice MILLER (father from Ireland and mother from Bristol England) both from Liverpool England.

AGB the 1st's mother Maria BADDILEY married widower Joseph LYMN in England but after his death came out with her son (to unknown father) and her daughter Annie (to Joseph LYMN) to NZ in 1861.

Maria BADDILEY's daughter, Annie LYMN, married William HOLMES in 1862. He was a ship builder in Devonport Auckland NZ. There grandson, Reginald HOLMES was murdered (infamous Shark Arm Murders case)in Sydney NSW Australia in 1935.

Margaret BADDILEY nee BAIRD went totally off the radar after 1861 so would really like to know what happened to her.

Love to hear from anyone that has family connections, information or photographs to exchange and share of any of the above.

Dear Gaye

Great, at last someone has responded to my post!

Annie is my great great aunt and her mother my g x... grandmother.

I would love to share what I have but do let me know what you have, how far back you have researched and what it is you exactly want. No use sending duplicate material.

I'm sure there must be info both of us have that is new to the other.

I have researched the family for some time so do have a reasonable amount of material but one thing I am always keen on is old photos and documents.

Let me know your main area of focus and I will see what I can share with you.

This is exciting to hear from you.

Regards

Hi Wendy - yes I am excited too - I don't have anything really about Annie just one photo I have found on the internet - but the 3 Holmes brothers were real pioneers here in Nz with their shipbuilding at Devonport - they built the first ferry to take passengers from Devonport to Auckland and back so built a hotel the"flagstaff" to accommodate the passengers - i visited Devonport a few years ago and got quite a bit of info about their exploits from a bookshop and have been searching on the internet as well - there is plenty of info there, but would love to see some photos of them!
Annie lived in Pukeatua (near Te Awamutu) when I was a child and she came and stayed with us a few times, was pretty old then - had 6 sons and ended up living in a retirement home in Hamilton until she died - will send photo of her outside their home in Devonport and looks like the shipyard was next door-I regret my parents didn't tell us any of the history of the Holmes family -kind regards Gaye
