BASSETT & BRYANT - a brother and a son killed in war within same 2 weeks

Journal by ngairedith

JOSEPHINE MARION BASSETT born about 1867 in Wellington New Zealand, she was the 6th daughter of Thomas BASSETT & Sarha Jessica HUDSON
- she had a brother Ivor who was killed in Belgium June 1st 1917 - 2 weeks later Josephine's son William Bryant was killed in France June 16th 1917.

I would like to know more about Josephine - what I have so far is: her father was Thomas BASSETT he was born on board the "DUKE OF ROXBURGH" while his parents were emigrating to New Zealand - he died in 1927 and is buried in Palmerston North
- Her mother's name was Sarah Jessica HUDSON (1856-1930) from Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Jessica also died in Palmerston North and is buried in Terrace End

Her mother's headstone reads:
In loving memory of MY dear mother - as in only one child left in 1936.

Josephine married William James Bryant in 1894 - I have 3 children for them, was there more?

Hi ngairedith.

Josephine Bassett's mothers name was Sarah jessica Hudson. The problem I have here though is that with the dates of births I have makes her only 12 when she had Josephine. So something that needs to be sorted.I also only have one sibling for her, Ivor.

Her father Thomas Bassett and my gggrandmother Annie Bassett are brother and sister.

Are you a Bassett descendant?

Josephine married 14 June 1894 as per this newspaper article:
... BRYANT --BASSETT. on the 14th June at St Josephs Roman Catholic Church Ohariu by the Rev Father Lane assisted by the Rev Father Donnelly . William James eldest son of the late John Bryant Esq to Josephine Marian sixth daughter of Mr T Bassett, both of Ohariu. Palmerston North and Pahiatua papers please copy

Josephine died in 1930 aged 73 which makes a birth year of about 1867 !!! BUT, IF she was the 6th daughter of Mr T Bassett then something is wrong with SARAH HUDSON beng her mother, as you say, Sarah (1856-1930) would have only been about 11 when she had Josephine and for Josephine to have been the 6th daughter then she is DEFINATELY not the mother ...
