Blewden Family History

Journal by cringles

I have been researching my Blewden family history for well over 30 years and have traced my lineage back to the year 1598. I have passed on a great deal of information to fellow researchers and see some of it already appearing here. Please get in touch by e-mail if you are researching any of the Blewden history.

I am researching the "Blewden" family from nz. My husbands ggrandmother was a daughter of William+ann (nee Soar) Blewden. His Ggrandmothers name was May Florence born in 1876. She is one of 13 children born to William+ANN. This is where there is confusion as William+Ann were married in 1884 so I'm wondering if this is a blended family as Ann Blewden was formerly a Soar but maiden name was Bower, was she widowed + married again? May Florence married Henry Lyman in 1894. Appreciate some assistance here
Many thanks (Apparently Ann Blewden arrived in NZ ON THE SS Tybernia in 1863 with her family. Many thanks Di Moulden my e-mail is pdmoulden@xtra.co.nz Thanks June!

Di, I lost a substantial amount of my emails before they even arrived with me, all due to new settings! I don't think I have ever had your email! Do you still require help/assistance? If you do please contact me again and I will do my very best to help. Sincere apologies for the previous problem. It went on for over a year without my knowledge.

Hello we are from Blewdens of Hampshire and our ancestor emmigrated to NZ around 1863 but met a very unfortunate and mysterious death 25 hears later. My Aunt Patricia Wood (nee Harrison) was in touch with Ngaire Blewden kn NZ some years ago. I would like to get in touch with any distant relatives if I am able to visit NZ in coming year or two.
my great grandmother married Harry (Henry Blewden born in Andover around 1882) when he moved to Scotland with the Royal Navy he was from Portsmouth, Hampshire and decendant of THOMAS BLEWDEN b.1783
Henry Blewden's parents were Frederick Blewden ( spelled Blewton a d Harriet (nee West) birth registered at Portsea Island (Kingston district).

I also have a photocopy of a certificate award for bravery from the Royal Humane Society originally in vellum to
Ann Blewden for rescuing a woman and child from drowning in a flooded stream in Shrewton Wiltshire on the 1st March 1881.

William Blewden who emmigrated to NZ to Auckland was very respected and trusted contractor who was instrumental in some of the most important buildings and public works in the city. At the time of his death he left a family of 8 sons and 6 daughters, two sons were married. In later life work dried up and he and a son both seperately sought work in Australia without any luck, I would like to know why after such a promising start to the city did Auckland fail after onky 20 years in the 1880's what was the economoic problem that affected such an industrious man and my ancestor, to leave him broken and dying in a mysterious accident.

Hi Skyelark, I am in the process of transferring my Family Tree data but may be able to help you. I also have a copy of the RHS Certificate awarded to Ann Blewden & quite a lot of information on the Australia & New Zealand Blewden families. Some years ago I was visited by two of them, sadly one has died since but I am still in touch with the other & some of my distant cousins too. I was also in touch with Ngaire for many years.
