Bower,, 19th century

Journal by wightdruid

One of my paternal ancestors was Thomas George Moody Bower from Nottinghamshire in the north of England. One of his sons was Samuel Bower and Samuel's son Walter Samuel was my great grandfather.

Another of Thomas George Moody Bower's sons was also called Thomas, but he was disowned by his family after being transported to the Swan River penal colony in Western Australia as a convict for seven years in 1863 for shooting a fellow who had earlier beaten him in a pub fight.

This is the family story that currently interests me most (although I hope to get to others later) and while I have a great deal of information on his life leading up to landing at Swan River aboard the Lord Dalhousie, I have only a brief outline of what became of him in the colony and after his release and eventual pardon. I have a brief newspaper report of his death, but little more.

Any further information about his life in Australia would be most welcome.
