BRASS of Yorkshire and Durham 18th/19th century

Journal by PeterBrassUK

I have hit a brick wall trying to find my 4 times great-grandmother BRASS. My 3 times great-grandfather Thomas BRASS was born in 1807 in Richmond Yorkshire but the parish baptismal record only shows him as "son of John" with no mother's name. His father was born in 1762 in Richmond and served for about 20 years in the army, reaching the rank of sergeant in the 1st Foot Guards (later Grenadier Guards). He served in and around London and was discharged in about 1803 in Worcester before returning to Richmond. His wife therefore was not necessarily local to Richmond.

Other problem is where the name ROBSON came into the family. It was used as a 2nd forename for my great-grandfather's brother James Robson BRASS (b. 1863) and subsequently. Thomas as above married a Jane ROBINSON. I wonder whether her name could have been incorrectly recorded and she was in fact ROBSON.
