Good afternoon Elizabeth! I am the husband of Sheila who was born a "Burden" Last Thursday we went to the Oxfordshire County Record Office to see what we could find out. The George Burden that you were seeking we believe was the son of John and Sarah Burden and Sarah's maiden name was Wickson.George according to Eynsham Parish records was born 9th January1817 and baptised in St Leonards church Eynsham 20th April 1817. He Married Ann Bushnell in the first quarter of the year 1838 in Oxford but as yet I cannot identify the church. In the Eynsham burials there was another George an infant buried in 1816, but there were no details as to his parents.
We made a thorough search of the Stanton Harcourt parish registers but sad to say there are no records in existence for the period from 1612 to 1654, this meant we were unable to verify the details you gave regarding Edward and Elizabeth Burden and there were obviously no records of their children one of whom could have been the father of Robert who married Judith Hazell. We found two children born to them,Robert in 1736 and Thomas in 1737. We found five children for Thomas and Jane Aflett, John in 1769, Sarah in 1771, Thomas in 1773, Mary in 1779 and Elizabeth in 1782.
Going back to 1655 Thomas and Marjorie had three children recorded, Mary, Thomas and Edward. No doubt they are relations but no positive link seems to be available to prove this relationship. It all looks a bit formal but the cold facts were all that were recorded in the church records
