JAMES BADLAND (1845-1890)
married PHOEBE BARRON (1855-1929) in the Wairarapa in 1875
- James was a Schoolmaster
- he was at Waihenga School, Martinborough in 1880
- he was appointed to Karori School in 1881 but had a 'return of and old chest complaint' an had to resign that post
- he was in Waihenga, Martinborough when he died 27 May 1890 aged 44, of a lung condition

- served in WWI as Gunner 17606 with NZEF, 20th Reinforcements New Zealand Field Artillery. His next of kin was his wife Elizabeth, staying with her mother (Jane Mary Borrie nee WYBROW) in Manaia, Taranaki when he left in Jan 1917
- Elizabeth was from Otakeho, South Taranaki
