COFFEY from St Marylebone, England

Journal by gdwrugby

looking for some further information on my ancestor Michael Coffey.

I think he was born circa 1820 but possibly earlier.

He married Hariet EMERTON 15 Sep 1834 at St Marylebone, witnesses were Ann Emerton and Wm Coffey.

Her details are Harriet Emerton
Birth 5 Mar 1814 in Lambeth
Death Mar 1867 in Sussex, United Kingdom

I think they had 2 daughters that I know of

Catherine Ann Coffey
Birth 22 Jul 1835 in England

Elizabeth Coffey
Birth 10 Nov 1838 in St Marylebone, London, England
Death 9 Aug 1923 in Grafton, New South Wales, Australia (Elizabeth Klotz)

I am a descendent of Elizabeth, I think she came to Australia on the Blenheim in 1855.

Any further information about Michael or his parents would be greatly appreciated.

There was a pioneering family named Coffey near Bulla Victoria and I think the one whose name I saw on a Bulla Bulla parish map and in Bulla Shire ratebooks was named Michael. I also think family members were buried in Bulla Cemetery.

The Sydney Morning Herald Tuesday 3rd June 1856 on page 8 there is a small notice which may relate.

MICHAEL COFFEY., who is supposed to be living in Globe street, Sydney, is desired to communicate with his daughter, ELIZABETH COFFEY, Post Office, Chippendale.

It looks like Elizabeth's first marriage was to Thomas Logan in 1857 in Sydney then she married again in 1869 to Louis Klotz in Grafton.

In the first marriage Elizabeth's surname was registered as Elizabeth COFFA instead of Coffey.

The Sydney Morning Herald 2nd June 1857 on page 1 has Elizabeth's marriage to Captain Thomas Logan late of Glasgow on May 21st 1857 at the Scotch Church Woolloomooloo. Elizabeth is entered as Elizabeth Coffa of Soho-suare London.
