hi talofa,

I think Helen may have actually been Ellen, but yes, the Yule family farmed at 'Sunnyside', East Taratahi
... Alexander Yule, the son of Robert Yule, brought his family to New Zealand from Hamilton, Scotland on the Bengal Merchant, arriving in Port Nicholson (Wellington) 20 Feb 1840.
With his was his wife Elizabeth & children:
Grace aged 10
Robert aged 7
Mary aged 1
A son, Alexander, was born at Petone one month after arrival and their daughter Mary was drowned in a flood in the Hutt River soon after. The family first settled at Lower Hutt where another daughter, Elizabeth, was born and they were to have seven other children. Alexander Yule was a foundation member of the Knox Church in Masterton. He died on 25 April 1890, aged 84 years and is buried in the Masterton Early Settler's Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth who died on 3 June 1903, aged 92 years

a daughter, Ellen Yule, was born in 1848 and married Colin McKenzie in 1870 & had 7 children

Colin was born in 1845, 1 of 8 children of Alexander McKENZIE (1804-1876) who was born in Urray, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland and died in 1876 in Masterton, Wairarapa & of Mary GOLLAN who was born in 1810 in Urray, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland and died 1890 in Kuripuni, Masterton

Patons of Ashhurst, McKenzies and some of the Yules--did you know that there is 110 ways of spelling YULE.Alexander YULE's father Robert is spelt YEWLL. I have an Uncle in Ashhurst Alfred (boy ) YUILE.The "Bengal Merchant" also took William Montgomerie to Van Diemans Land in 1828 as a Convict. He was tried in the court of Ayr of forgery, found guilty and deported for 14 years He was a farmer. His brother Peter Montgomerie was found guilty in the court in Glasgow and was deported for 14 years to Sydney. He was a Doctor! Their brother Robert Montgomerie son of John Montgomerie and Jean KING m 30 Dec 1788 in Kilbirnie Scotland is an ancestor of mine.Do you have the names of the eight children of Alexander McKENZIE and Mary GOLLAN? talofa

One question:? :-) Colin McKENZIE married Ellen YULE in 1870 and had seven children.
Have you their names and date of birth or year of birth please? I know that Robert was one of them and that he married Mahalia McGregor PATON. They had three children.
Ian, Isabel and Donald. I think that Alexander a brother of Roberts was Best Man at Mahalia and Roberts wedding.

The amount involved in the robbery was 5,000 pounds and the Bank of Scotland was in High St PAISLEY SCOTLAND. Passing of forged notes (3 of them)

In one of your replies you said that Colin McKENZIE was born in 1845, 1 of 8 children of Alexander and Mary GOLLAN, these are the names I would like please.
PLUS when you are trying to follow your ancestors do you follow a certain path or all of the Family? Should I just concentrate on the McKENZIES down a certain path or check each person of a family? Had to decide which.
