I was wondering whether you have come across any information that links the surname Barr with that of De Barr? I grew up being told that my surname was French (there is a township "Bar" in France). However I know that there is also a Barr Scotland.

Thank you much,

Lisa DeBarr

Hello Lisa,

Thank you for your comments.

As yet it hasn't even entered my thoughts to explore the name Barr back further but it is indeed a possibility that they could have originally been Debarr. What a pity I didn't know earlier has I have just come back from holidaying in France & several other countries.
Will post your question in my forum at:http://www.ancestralsearch.proboards101.com/index.cgi? ........unless you would like to do so yourself. You would need to register first.

Please let me know.
