If you look on you will find on 1871 census

You will find on this site indexed records for Nova Scotia...

A search at finds 2 James McLean births and a marriage that may or may not be your family.

You may also have some luck at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick site - check the Vital Stats at

and the Daniel Johnson newspaper archives.

Best of luck in your search.

Thanks so much! I have been using the PEI Provincial Archives for my Mom's family, but hadn't stumbled across the other provinces yet.

I will check the dite too - I haven't had a lot of success with the 1871 census to date. It would be nice if they were all as well done as the 1881 version!

Thanks again!

I am James Mclean Currie's (Maclean Curry) great granddaughter. I guess that would make us second cousins!
I have a photo of him sitting in his racing sulky with one of his trotting horses outside the farmhouse in Nova Scotia.

I sent you a private message, thanks so much for your response. I forgot to ask which of James I children are you descended from?
