That would be my half brother/brother.I was born in 1957 on a place on the Putty Road.My father was Earnie Denton,he died in about 1958/59.I Know of an Alfie Denton at Singleton(Brother).Dick Denton (Richard)(Wife Dolly). He brought land at Singleton heights.Want I am trying to find out, apperantly my father ran away from home at a young age, from England, travelled to Australia as a cabin boy with the Royal Navey and jumped ship at Sydney harbour. That apperantly was when he changed his name to "Denton".
Yes, I know the Putty Road.
Richard DENTON (the bus driver) married Doris (Dolly) FRANKS in Singleton in 1955
Who's Josephine Denton, d:1970 Singleton? is that your mother?
Do you know his name before he became DENTON? Did he ever indicate the name of the ship he left. It wasn't illegal to jump ship, thousands did it and Brits could come and go as they pleased. So, I don't understand why he changed his name. I suppose if he was in the Royal Navy that's another story and probably the reason.
I'll look into it tomorrow for you. Jan
Thank you for your reply.I do have some old photo's of Dick and Dolly.
Josephine I cannot remember.A lot of info I have is hear say,so as you can imagine ,I am trying to confim all this.I was only about 13 months old when my dad died.
I really appreciate any history you can give me.
Bill
My mum and dad as far as I can see from records where never married(Scandal ?).Her name was Joyce. She died in 1989.
Because of your father's name change and his two relationships which both produced children, any sort of official document pointing directly to him would be rare. He seems to have avoided the electoral rolls. I believe the following is his death regiseration.
nsw.bdm DEATHS
4938/1959 DENTON ERNEST PERCIVAL ALFRED JAMES CLARA JANE MARRICKVILLE
I don't think the only other death for an Ernest DENTON in 1958 at Windsor is him.
I just think it would be natural for him to have named his eldest son Alfred after his own father and himself and a death registered in Marrickville would be close to all the hospitals.
He did have two sons in the 1920s, before your father was born who are on record. Namely Alfred Ernest and Richard Kenneth. I believe all your answers would probably be found with their families.
In the 1980s Alfred and his family all lived in Blaxland Avenue Singleton. I think it is called Singleton Heights now.
Frederick and Doris(Dolly) lived on the New England Highway. Dolly was a barmaid in Singleton.
Get hold of as many certificates as you can, as well as Alfred and Frederick's.
You are going to have to rely on a good pair of walking shoes and family oral history.
Don't know why I have Frederick typed up there. I meant Richard.

Could you offer some date. What time line are you after?
The only DENTON I know of, off the top of my head in Singleton was Richard. He was the bus driver in the 1960s He lived in John Street.
