William ASHCROFT and Hannah SIDEBOTTOM were married in Victoria in 1872.

The marriage index gives William's birth place as Lancashire and that's all I know about him. Familysearch gives William's year of birth as 1809 in Lancashire, and his year of death as 1876 in Victoria. I have searched the death records several times but have not located this death. If he was born in 1809 he would have been about 63 years old when he married Hannah. Hannah was born about 1852 and would have been about 20 years old when married.

Their marriage certificate would certainly help here.

Hannah died 1916 in Kyneton, Victoria, aged 64 years. Parents recorded as Thomas SIDEBOTTOM and Mary Ann BOUDEN.

Sophia's birth was registered three times in 1883 and all have the same registration number of 18000R. The R at the end of a number means the birth was re-registered. I have come across many births registered for a second time when the wrong name was recorded, but third registrations are not so common. These are the three registrations for Sophia's birth.

Peter's birth was also registered three times with the same registration number of 4247R.

* In case your wondering why I have not included a surname for Sophia, Mary and William it's because I'm not sure which name to include.


** PACHILLO was Peter's recorded name at death.


Later on down the track Hannah ASHCROFT, nee SIDEBOTTOM, married Antonie PACHOLLI in 1898, and this explains where the PACHOLLI name comes into it. Antonie's birth place was recorded as Switzeland should anyone be interested. I may be wrong, but I think Antonie was the father of Hannah's four children, and possibly a few more.

There is still a lot of research to be done on Hannah's family, and when further details come to hand I will update this journal.
