Journal by TrudyDrumm

I'm looking for info on the drumm/blair side.

My great grandfather John Louis Drumm was married to Grace Evelyn Blair in New Zealand 1900.

There children were:

Grace Blair parents were Adam Blair & Norah Crowley.

Wondering if any1 has any info on both family's as still trying to find out info on James Joseph Drumm on when he arrived to New Zealand & if any family came ova with him. Dnt no if he came ova frm Ireland or sumwhere else.

Any info would b great.

hello Trudy,
A little extra info may help your readers to identify this family

John Louis DRUMM (1878-1918) married Grace Evelyn BLAIR (1879-1935) 20 Sep 1900
* Grace was 1 of 12 children of Adam BLAIR, member of the Greymouth County Council & Norah CROWLEY who was born in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia (they married in Greymouth 8 Aug 1878)
* John was a Bushman in the Pataia district of Greymouth. He died in November 1918 at Guinness street, Greymouth aged 40, another victim of the Flu Pandemic
the known children of JOHN & GRACE:
* 1900 - 1970 Joseph Drumm
- Joseph married Hilda Jessie LESLIE (1902-1991) in 1929

John Louis Drumm's parents were James Joseph DRUMM (1842-1886) from Ireland & Estella Katherine REYLING (1851-1929). Estella was born in Sydney to Frederick REYLING & Bridget MULLINS.

hi Trudy,
yes I realise you probably had that
I added it here because extra info (especially dates, districts, spouses etc) helps your readers to identify this family and may jog some memories (in the hope they will share with you)

by ngairedith on 2014-04-06 05:42:41

by the way Trudy I think it possible that James and siblings may have arrived in NZ after spending some time in Victoria, Australia
I will ask our 'Vic expert' (tonkin) if he can help out :)

Hello TrudyDrumm.

There was a James DRUMM arrived in Victoria on the "Harriet" in 1858, aged 18 years. He was the only DRUMM recorded on the passenger list. I have searched all the Australian records but could not find a marriage or death for James, so he may have left Australia. Keep in mind passenger lists did not always record second given names.

Not much to show for five hours of record searches but may be of some interst to you. I noticed DRUMM was also recorded as DRUM in the Victorian records and my searches included this spelling as well.

Hi Tonkin

Tks 4 dat. James died in NZ in 1886 & married in NZ 1870 to Catherine Estella Reyling.

Is there a chance that u could c if James Joseph was also under Drum with the 1 m instead of 2 plz.

Thank you for ur help.

I can c that but I also have find that a Mary, John & James Drumm was on a ship called Dauntless, 700 tons, Moore, from London.

The fine ship Dauntless, in command of Captain Moore, arrived in harbour yesterday morning from Kingstown, bringing a cargo of general merchandise & about 400 Government immigrants. She also brings 17 of the men belonging to the ship Fiery Star, which was burnt off Chatham Islands in April last, full particulars of which will be found elsewhere.

The Dauntless left Queenstown on the 31st December 1864, & when off Cape Finisterre saw a ship in distress. The life-boat was sent to her, & upon boarding her found it to be the ship Pryne, of St. John's New Brunswick, & immediately offered assistance, which was not required as the Captain thought he should be able to make some port in safety.

Moore was the captain of Dauntless. The Dauntless was boarded by a boat from the H.M.S.S Harrier, bound from Auckland to England. In lowering the boats to board the Dauntless, one of the seamen fell into the water, & was never seen to rise any more. The Lieutenant who boarded her reported that the Harrier sailed from Falkner's Island on the 20th January, & that during her stay there a Sub-Lieutenant named Jerroham, had gone out shooting, & had not returned again.

This is just a little info I find from the Extracted from "The New Zealand Herald, Auckland".

I am a Granddaughter of Stella Marguerita Drumm. Stella was unmarried but had one child to James Alphonsus Creagh, my mother, Doreen Thelma Drumm. Mum was raised by her Grandmother Grace Drumm nee Blair. She doesn't remember her Grandfather John Louis Drumm as he died before she was born. Mum is 91 and in great health. She'd love an info about her family on the Drumm side.

PS is Adam Blair of West Tigers League club related??

by TrudyDrumm on 2014-04-28 17:55:40

Hi Jsmcg7.

Tks for that as i have been trying for yrs to get info on my family, as my dad is past & I never knew his side apart frm my Auntys & my Uncle who have all past away. All I no is that John Louis & Grace were married in Greymouth in. They had 5 children. Joseph, Stella, Floretta, Grace, Nora.

John & Grace married 20 Sept 1900.

Joseph married Hildra Jessie Leslie 1929 who were my grandparents.

Nora Estella married George Arthur King 1923.

Grace Gertrude married Frederick George Robinson 1926

Floretta May married Cecil Sydney Donald 1929.

John was a bushman in Pataia district of Greymouth. He died Nov 1918 at Guinness St, Greymouth aged 40, another victim of the flu pandemic.

John's parents were James Joseph Drumm & Estella Katherine Reyling who was born Sydney, Australia.

Other children were:
James Frederick 1871
Katherine Loretta 1873
Josephine Gertrude 1875
John Louis * 1878
Mary Stella Margurita 1880

This is pretty much all i have apart from other Drumms but havent been able to c if they r related or not.

I do not no if Adam Blair is related or not.

Hi Trudy I have been talking to Mum this morning and she thought you must be Peter's daughter as there was only the one son, your grandfather Joe. Mum was close to Joe and we visited them in Belfast when we were young. Mum has a lovely photo of our great grandmother with Joe. Mum was wondering if your Aunt Grace is alive still she didn't know if our father was still alive either so I will let her know he has passed away.
