EARLY EUROPEAN CONTACTS WITH NZ

Journal by edmondsallan

edmondsallan - hello - I thought I would show you a list of some of these very early explorers to NZ . Before we start I would like to run past you a short story concerning me personally . Here we Go ;
Fifty years ago in March , one day I decided to go out to a west coast beach to do some Surf casting . The beach's name was " Ruapuke " even back in those days it was a dangerous beach & still is . While trying to find a fishing spot with a bit of safety & near a small creek that runs from a small lake further in , I came across a monument , built with local big stones , had ' Chinese Markings 'and inside which you couldn't remove Little Chinese statues etc . Apparantly it was well known to the locals, they did not know how it got there . In the year 2005 month of August . I was working on a research paper about the Four fleets that Chinese Emporer - ZHI in 1247 ( I think that date is correct - going on memory ) sent out at different times from China . I did all the historical Journeys . In One particular Journey the Chinese ran out of water & they came a shore at " Ruapuke " to replentish their water stocks & it mentioned they had built this " Cairn " as a thank you. I really was stoked in finding that in the pages of history . Of interest , my research was in the Istanbul Science Museum in Turkey who have the greatest collection of sea charts /sea histories in the world .and are freely available .
Lets take a peek at these " early seafares / explorers

1521 - Mendoca - Portugese // 1567 Fernandez - Spain //
1642 - Tasman - " " // 1769 Cook - England //
1769 - Surville - French // 1772 Fresene - France //
1772 - Clesmeur - English // 1773 Cook - England //
1773 - Furneaux - " " // 1777 Cook - " " //
1777 - Clerke - " " //
1791 - Eber Bunker - American whaler with two ships anchored & visited Maori Tribe in Doubtless Bay - Northland - NZ

It looks as if a lot of countries had knowledge of us and roughly where we were in the world . Time to go - Till meet again - regards - edmondsallan
