Vogel Emigrants to New Zealand C1877 - 1880

Journal by karrienz

I am looking for any information on this man, who appears to arrived in New Zealand about 1878 or thereabouts:

Wilhelm Daniel Vogel bn C1852 Kella, Eichfield, Thuringia, Germany
F = Moskey (?) Vogel, M = Wilhelmina ?

(any help with a variation on the name 'Moskey' would be helpful - he was a Naval Officer - could it possibly be a variant of Maurice?)

Wilhelm (William) Vogel was married to Wilhelmina Larsen in 1881 Wellington, New Zealand

Wilhelm was variously known as William Daniel Vogel; Daniel William Vogel.

Wilhelm and Wilhelmina lived in Wellington for several years after they were married and had 2 daughters and a son.

Hi karrie,
Doing research for your query
Came across a Wilhelmina Vogel born 1845 in Australia
She married a Wilhelm Buscke and they a son, Charles, born in Wanganui in 1878
Wilhelm Buscke was from Tilsit, Ostpreuen, Preuen, Germany so there may be some connection

Will carry on looking ...

HI - thanks for that Ngaire - I've been looking really hard at the marriage cert for Wilhelm Vogel and Wilhelmina today; where it's got Mosky as his Fathers name....well blow me if it's not a big fat copperplate 'U' not 'M' - so have been thrashing around name variants - sounding it out...closest could be 'J' if it said like yoh...for Joseph...or even Oskar if Wilhelm had a thick accent....and what amazes me is that Wilhelmina speaking Danish and Wilhelm speaking German could have understood each other clearly - maybe they spoke English having been in NZ a couple of years.
