Welcome to FamilyTreeCircles aussiebear.

I think George and Elizabeth arrived in South Australia much later than August 1832
because their fifth child was born there in 1853.

If I'm reading the records correctly these are thier ten children.

Mary Ann BARBER b. circa 1841.
John BARBER b. circa 1845.
Charles BARBER b. circa 1846.
Rebecca BARBER b. circa 1851.
William BARBER b. 1853.
George BARBER b. 1854.
Richard BARBER b. 1857.
Eliza BARBER b. 1859.
Georgiana BARBER b. 1861.
Alfred BARBER b. circa 1863.

All ten children married in South Australia and had about 80 children between them. If your interested I would be happy to put a few details together for you.

It's a big family.

He was still in Uk in 1851 as he shows up in the UK census living in Northampton
George Barber, head, 31 (1820) a Sheppard, born Weston Favell, Northamptonshire
Elizabeth, wife, 33 (1818) born Weston Favell
John, son, 6 (1845) Weston Favell
Charles, son, 4 (1847), Weston Favell
Mary Ann, daughter, 2 (1849) Weston Favell
Rebecca, daughter, 10 months (1851) Weston Favell

Just checked 1841 census and this this is him living at Weston Favell, Northamptonshire
Richard Barber, head, 35 (1806) Agricultural Labourer
Elizabeth, wife, 35 (1806)
Charles,, 15 (1826) Agricultural Labourer
Marther (sic) 2 months (1841)
George, 20 (1821) Agricultural Labourer
Eliza, 15 ( 1826)

I would assume that George & Eliza are brother and sister to Richard, it seems that Weston Favell was a small village and lots of BARBER's lived there as there are 3 or 4 families showing up on the census

George Barber married Elizabeth White in Northampton 1842 Q4 15 581

Hey tonkin, have you finished your penance?

by tonkin on 2012-08-19 05:01:46

The ages in the 51 cencus tally with the ages I have from the marriage and death records of the family in South Australia.

I expect the family arrived here in 1852, and not 1832.

Yes SilverVixen ... I have finished my penance, but I'm still standing in the corner. The day is not over.

... and there are more Barbers in Australia than Shearers!

No problem aussiebear.

The information for your BARBER family will be posted here on FTC as a journal. It will take me a day or two to sort out my research notes and compile a family record for you. I will let you know when it's posted here in the comments section.

Have posted a journal for BARBER and WHITE and hope it will open a few doors for you. I have lost a few pages of my notes and will have to go back to the records and do a few more searches. I will do an update when I have some time to spare.

I have no idea on how to get information from Germany. Never had reason to do so, but I'm sure someone may be able to give you a few pointers.

What information do you require from Lancashire aussiebear?

by aussiebear on 2012-08-22 01:10:44

by tonkin on 2012-08-25 23:40:58

John and Edith only had the six children I know of aussiebear.

But it appears Edith had a son in Adelaide two years before she married John.
The father was not named but it's possible John may have been the father.

Looks like Edith and John were divorced and Edith remarried to Albert ROGERS, but have not located a marriage for them to date.

Will let you know if I come across any siblings for John.
