George Mhoon registered with Cherokee 1896

Journal by francesno1

I am trying to verify my ancestory. I was always told as a child my grandmother was half Indian, and thought it was Choctaw. Her name was Jewel Leaser born 1899 died in 1973, (her parents were George Leaser and Lena Leaser) I found in the Census records that she had several siblings but can not find records on her sibilings.

Jewel Leaser Tomlinson Ghyton Cupper Hoy are all aliases for my grandmother. Her children were Clifford Model Tomlinson, James Garvin Ghyton and Dee Ghyton. My uncle Tomlinson was killed in WWII and she signed his death certificate with the name Jewell Cupper. She lived most of her life in Texas.

Her Grandmother was Mary Mae Mhoon. I have found information on Mhoontown Cemetry (it is an interesting read just search on Mhoontown Cemetry). There are numerous "Mary Mhoons" through the generations the name Mhoon was used as a middle name.

My gggrandfather was registered for citizenship in 1896 with the Cherokee Indians, I found that information on line and have a copy of the document, he also registered a vessel (boat, ship??) at the same time.

My great grandmother had a sister Lulie Mhoon Sawtelle.

Surnames I am researching are Ghyton, Guyton, Tomlinson, Leaser, Mhoon, Sawtelle, McCracken, Elmer Walker.

If any one should have information I would like to exchange info.

God Bless and have peace in your heart.
