Georgios Anathansiou - Greek Gr Grandfather
I am researching the family of Georgios Anathansiou who came to America in the mid 1800's as a young sailor on a merchant ship.
He settled in Pensacola, Escambia, Florida and lived there until his death in 1909. He came from the Greek Island of Scopelos in the Agean Sea. He changed his name to George Bell and was a wholesale grocer in Pensacola. He married Mary Josephine Mcduffie and they
had only one child. Alexander Brian Bell was my grandfather who lived most of his life in Pensacola and died in 1969.
I am interested in any information about his family who lived on the islands of Scopelos and Alonosis. I understand it is a fairly common Greek name. Also, I would like to learn of any successful strategies regarding Greek research in the mid 1800's.
Thanks for any help! Carolyn Jones Davis
