Great Grand Mother Ivy May Collins nee Fitzgerald nee Asher OR Usher said to be born in Christchurch New Zealand c. 1885 (no birth record found).

Question by Bibbie

I am researching my Great Grand Mother Ivy May Collins nee Fitzgerald nee Asher OR Usher said to be born in Christchurch New Zealand c. 1885 (no birth record found).
Said to be Catholic faith, Maori descent and migrated to Queensland Australia c. 1887. Married James Francis Fitzgerald said to be born in Newcastle NSW (no birth record found) in New York City New Year's Eve 1905 (no record found).
They were part of the Flying Fitzgerald Trapeze Act performing with Wirth's Circus.
It is said that 'they' changed their name to Collins due to a contractual agreement with Wirth's and according to Queensland Death Records they are both listed as Fitzgerald.
I have ordered the Death Certificates
I am searching for:
Ivy May Usher birth certificate
James Francis Fitzgerald birth certificate
Marriage Certificate – no record found in New York City
Change of Names Record – no record found
Any ideas on where I should search please.

Was James Francis one of the Fitzgeralds' from Fitzgerald Brother's Circus before he went to Wirths'? I ask this because I know Fitzgeralds' traveled New Zealand as well as Australia

I just thought he may have been related and that may have been a reason for the name change, after Dan and Tom Fitzgerald died. Their father was a barrister named John D Fitzgerald. I checked and Fitzgerald's were in New Zealand in 1904-1905. The circus folded not long after about 1908.

Just giving you details to rule out any relationship.
Both Daniel and Tom Fitzgerald died in 1906 Daniel in February in South Melbourne, Victoria. Tom in Burma in March.(from Bright's Disease). Tom was married but had no children. I don't know about Daniel.
They were both in their 40's. born in Kiama, nsw. Father, John Daniel Fitzgerald and Mother was Mary Culhane. John Daniel Fitzgerald entered parliament in 1881 and died in 1922 I believe he also was awarded a Legion of Honour. He was born in Shellharbour and may have had brothers.

The Daily Telegraph Sat 27 Mar 1909
"The whole of the late Messrs. Fitzgerald Bros. menagerie having been purchased by the Messrs. Wirth, they claim to now possess the largest and most complete;
collection of wild animals in the world."

Hang on; that John Daniel Fitzgerald who won the medal and entered parliament was a brother of Tom and Dan. He just had the one girl, she married a Clarke and they were both opera singers in New York.
I better leave it alone now. But you can see the parallels.
