Hi,

My grandmother was Mary Christina Coghlan, born in Wexford. Her father was William who was the "Receiver of Wrecks" at Wexford for many years. He was born about 1814. My research is patchy but as yet I have no links to Kilkenny. I know there were also Coghlans associated with the Arklow Lifeboat in the mid 1800's. This may be of some assistance (or not). Best of luck. Sheelagh

Hi Sheelagh
I don't know if ours is the same William Coghlan But just know my William is supposed to originate from Kilkenny. Don't really know much about mine either. My William Coghlan is supposed to have come out from Ireland roughly in the mid 1840s aged about 9yrs old with his father who was also named William. No mothers name to go with them and can't find them on the shipping lists yet either. I live in the UK and one of these yrs may go over to Ireland and see if I can find the different ports the Irish were all shipped off to Australia from. But got to do a little more research about it yet. I think the boundaries in Ireland were all different than they are today as well. William was supposed to be from Kilkenny and would have been born about 1839. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any info about it. My email address is Kathleenpreece@hotmail.com
