HENRY WILLIAMS - 1815 ------- 1823
edmondsallan - We were up to when this gentleman left the
" Royal Navy " I suspose if someone has seen human death & butchery on humans or fellow friends many times , and still trying to keep yourself from going insane , what ever next you were going to do or want to do, would be a position of trying to assist people and show them the good in life . My brain is trying to absorb & make a decision on that one . Any way I am taking a guess at - what made " Henry Williams " want to become a missionary / bishop in religion . was it to thank " thee man " above for keeping him alive - ??? Was it to bring peace to the world , after all that he had been through & witnessed . ??? Makes one think a bit / what changed him and alter his trail of life . Probably never figure that one out .
Not long after 1815 ( I know I made a note of this date , says so in my index filing . must have lost it ) he decided to become a " Surgeon in Medicine " He went to Medicine College in London in 1816 for two years . For some reason , he suddenly gave that up . No notes seem to be available on why . He didn't stop working as he started straight away back in " Gosport " England at a small ship yard building small boats to Cutter size vessels . His diary ( re Turnbull collection ) did mention , that he felt he had found what he wanted to do for the rest of his life . It seems as though his
sister ' Lydia - her husband - " Edward Garrad Marsh " who was a member of the CMS gave " Henry " a copy of a journal , telling about the work they did in far off places . In late 1819-20 " Henry" offered his services to the CMS . In July 1823 , he sailed with
" Samuel Marsden " to the Bay of Islands From Sydney Australia . By this time he had become a Deacon in his church and became known as the " Reverend Henry Williams " The rest of his life' s story is well known especially among our " Edmonds Family Tree " - till we meet again - regards - edmondsallan
