hi marscus,

do not know what information you have so will submit this so that others may better identify who you are looking for ...

(also found, during writing this, a journal written by janilye and I have added the link below. Some of the data differs slightly so much more research is required for verification)

William McLeur Palmer was born 10 June 1810 in Sydney Australia
- son of Richard PALMER & Elizabeth TITLEY who were originally from Herftordshire & Shropshire England and sent to Australia as convicts

William arrived in New Zealand in 1828 aged 18 as a Ships Carpenter, not an immigrant, (not known which ship at this time but was a very early arrival as most European immigrants started arriving from 1839)

William's brother, Edwin Palmer, was a Whaler. Edwin had a relationship with Irihapeti PATAHI in 1829, against the wishes of her people. Edwin eventually abandoned her which caused her great emotional devastation as she was not only unable to see her children but endured having to live outside her society

William first 'married?' Titi/Kuini HINEWAI possibly about 1838, a daughter of Te RAHUI & Te MAIKAUMAI
- William was then aged about 28 and Titi about 18
- they had 5 children
- Titi died in 1847 aged 27 during the birth of daughter Hana/Hannah
- some say this daughter may have been born to a sister of Titi

William next married Anne Parera HOLMES on 20 October 1853
- William was aged about 43 & Anne 16
- Anne was born 10 December 1836, a daughter of James HOLMES & Tamairaki Te KAIHERAKI. A sister, Merehana Holmes (1833-1876) was also known as Mary Anna & Mary Susanne Whitehouse who married 3 times and died in Wellington
- William and Anne had at least 12 children in Taieri, near Dunedin
- Anne died 6 December 1886 aged 50 in Otakia, Henley, Otago
- William died 30 March 1903 in Otakia aged 93

* Angela Wanhalla, specializes in the histories of cultural encounter in New Zealand's colonial past. Her research focuses on gender, race and colonialism in nineteenth century New Zealand, the indigenous history of the North American West, and the history of intimacy, particularly interracial relationships and hybridity
she wrote (amongst many others) 'One White Man I Like Very Much' which tells of Edwin & William McLeur Palmer and their relationships with Maori women

Hi, a book that covers all these points is 'Taonga A Palmer Family Whakapapa'author Gwenda Bowman. Merehana Whitehouse was the older half-sister to Ann Parera Holmes.
