b abt 1851 Edinburgh Scotland

married
Isabella McCloskey 1877 Milton New Zealand

died
1928 Invercargill New Zealand 75yrs

Do you have any details from his marriage, age, fathers name/occupation or Johns occupation.

Does his death indicate any possible parents or length in NZ.

He wasn't by chance a Tobacconist??

Found two possibiles

1)
John b1849 Edinburgh
F: John - Tobacconist
M: Barbara Brown

siblings
Ann, George, Grace & Barbara

further research has trees with John son of John died 1877 Glasgow but no document evidence.

2)
John b 1849 Edinburgh
F: James - Coach Smith
M: Isabella ?

siblings
Marion/Anna, Isabella & James

no further sighting of John after 1861 Census, he is on 1851 & 1861.

Father James & Isabella, Anna(Marion) & James on 1871 & James, Isabella & Marion on 1881.

John was a engine driver ( he worked on flax machines etc )in and about Southland NewZealand, no mention on parents all we know he came to N.Z.as a remittance man, he had several children Isabella, Ann, William, Mary, Elizabeth Cathcart,all N.Z born, he also had another family, and again a child Elizabeth Cathcart, no sure what the Cathcart connection is, his wife Isabella and her sister came from was Irish came to N.Z.in1874 on the ship Parsee, she died 1938.
