How can I fine an ancestor that seems to have no paper trail?

Have you looked at other family records example, have you looked at an obit of someone closely related to your ancester? Have you checked for border crossings? Social security indexes?
Have you tried a posting yet? There are alot of people "connected" to this site who would love to help you if they can. You see evidences of this everyday with replies, comments and answers that are received.

I have looked at everything I can. I even emailed the Delaware Library about the Donovan Family and had no reply. There is not much out there for her or her families. Susan R. Donovan ( can be spelled Donaven, Donoven) is only listed on one census with husband Theodore Edward Cooper and children and my great grandmother's death record, Arlie Elizabeth Cooper who married my great grandfather, George Fred Rust. I have also posted here and one person emailed about a Lillian Donovon who married a Clark.

hi dlstx i too have had the same problem with my grandfather he arrived in australia c1872 or 1877 aged 16 years. on his marriage certificate his age was given as 26 years according to my grandmother when he passed on my grandmother did the information and working back from the two certificates he was 36 years when they married a lot of conflicting info. on my mothers and her sisters birth certificates he stated he was born in bombay india and the other stated he was born in portugal spain idid some research onthe spanish history and came up with the info of about the time he was born there was a civil war it ended up portugal was separate from spain i wrote to portugal for info all i got was a scam i also wrote to bombay india several replies but it was all about vasco degama the explorer but what i did find out to get his birth certificate i had to know his mothers name and the church area where he was living or where he was christened all the info which i never had and cant find i tried shipping etc idid find his signature at the bank when he married my grandmother but nothing since his surname was degama which i would sa was possibly portugues hope you have better luck happy research bindi andbonny
