edmondsallan - Hi Wolcot - you have got a curly one to sort out . The following may help you. The early european way of making the sur-name a christian name is your boggy !! The name with slight alterations in the spelling but possible the same ancestory seems to have started in the Netherlands in Europe . They were there earlier than 1580 AD, - Here are some of the following dates & countries although not proven 100 % are reasonable accurate
Netherlands -1550 AD // Germany -1618 //Finland 1669 // Holland -1690 // Denmark - 1680 - // Norway - 1700 // Sweden- 1870 // United states america -1890 //
Finland and Denmark have thousands of these names . Some spelt the same , others as their christen name - others with a letter or two letters dropped out . However they all appear to be of the same ancestry. Remember these notations are only guide lines and you need to get stuck in - Learn about their ancestry in the whole of Europe . To find the source will be difficult . Good hunting !! Regards edmondsallan
