Question by MelReid08831

I am descended from the Reid gardeners of Niddry Castle (outside of Edinburg). Three Reid brothers (born at Niddry) and families crossed to East Jersey on the "Exchange" in 1683. The brothers were John (author of the "Scots Gard'ner), James (who acquired much of Freehold in Monmouth County, East Jersey - later to be made the County seat by his son and brother), and George (who has been misreported as Andrew in one secondary record after another). Am seeking the Niddry Reid progenitors.
John Reid who claim to America with his brothers married Margaret Miller of Cashon, Kirkintilloch. They had three daughters before departing to Perth Amboy (New Perth at the time) East Jersey: Anna b. 1680; Helena b. 1681; Margaret b. 1683, dies after the voyage to East Jersey. James who came to America appears to have married Anna Mill, daughter of Robert Mill of Edinburgh, master mason. They had sons John and Samuel.
The grandfather, also a John Reid, of the three brothers may have married an Agnes Laurie in 1633. The Lauries took over gardening at NIddry after the Reids. This grandfather may have also married a second time in 1672 to Jonet Gibson. Jonet certainly seems to be his widow of record when he dies in 1684 at Shank, the estate from which the emigrating John Reid left to come to America.
Would be grateful for any information of course, but also for informed guesses about possible connections and where to pursue any progenitors of the line.
