Thank you for such a prompt reply.
I believe Thomas may have been married twice (1st wife not known) and came to Australia with (2nd) wife Catherine Williams. What information I have is summarised below:
After trying to find out information of his life in Wales (abt 2 years now) I have been unable to confirm a marriage record in Wales, and in Australian records they are referred to as Thomas Griffiths and Catherine Williams).
Thomas'children confirmed from a copy of his Sth Australian Will, d1859 Wakefield Bridge SAust
David b 1834
Mary Anne b.c1833?
Thomas Major b1850
Richard (dec'd infant) b.1852
............beneficiary is also his wife, Catherine Williams
One clue I do have is that the name "Major" appears as a 2nd name in some generations of my family up to "Donald Major Maelgwynn Griffiths" who is my uncle who died as a 4 year old child (b1912, d.1916, Broken Hill NSW Australia).
Could you please let me know how to trace emigration records. There is a ship the "gratitude" which has a Thomas Griffiths aboard with 6 children (unnamed), but I have does not show the right number of children. as Thomas Major b1850, Richard (dec'd infant) b.1852,Richard b1854 and Elizabeth 1856 were born in South Australia.
Any help would be appreciated.
Happy New Year
