Hi David:

I'm trying to find my great, great maternal grandmother,who I believe was of Indian ancestry, and who also was located in Calabogie, Ontario.

I used to visit my Great Grandmother(Philomena Dillon) in Calabogie Ontario & spend every summer there when I was a kid. We used to go to Jocko's Beach every summer & have lots of fun. Jocko's Beach was owned by your relatives & originally sold it to Cory Legree who was also an Indian, sometime in the 50's. Today, Jocko's Beach is a huge money making resort. It lies just outside the village of Calabogie on Calabogie Lake.

Here's a website you might want to try to find your Granddad's baptismal/death certificate:
This is the web address for;
Renfrew Co., Ontario Genealogy Web.

Best of luck. I think the Catholic Church in Calabogie was called Precious Blood Church. The Church in Calabogie at that time probably had a very small congregation & was likely a mission of the Catholic Church of Mount St. Patrick.

Good luck with your search, but do yourself a favour & check out your eligibility for an indian status card. I think to qualify for an Indian status card you will need a father or grandfather connection rather than a great grandfather connection. In any event the Jocko family was well established in Calabogie in the 1950's.

Andrea from Kingston, Ontario Canada, born in Renfrew, Ontario Canada
