I have reached a dead stop in my search for Samuel Steele

Question by sharleen51

There are so many Samuel Steele's and I am stuck finding my ancestor who immigrated with his wife, to Cumberland Co. PA from Ireland before 1763. The census reports I find are crude - they only disclose the number of "white" people in the household but there are no names or reference hints for me to put him in context. I have found a Samuel Dale Steele, but his progeny seems to have moved south of PA whereas my Steele ancestors mostly stayed in PA. Moving west of Cumberland county. I know where his son Isaac m. Jane Barr are buried in PA. and I have evidence of his service in the Revolutionary War. However family tradition says that his wife, also from Ireland is Betsy Lackey (or Leakey). I cannot find her. Left Ireland for the US with Samuel, leaving one son behind in Ireland. Gave birth to Isaac ( m. Jane Barr) in 1786 in the US.

I too have Steel relatives that I am finding elusive. Where in Ireland did yours come from? Mine were from Co Antrim. I have photos of graves that may be relevant.

That is the problem! I am not sure! But Co. Antrim is very recognizable to me from my research, I know there are Steel's/Steele's from there. I would love to look at anything that might give me clues! Photos of graves would be awesome to see! Thank you so much for the offer! I'll look forward to hearing from you!
