I recently retired and started researching my family ancestry. I am a beginner, but do have some info on each of my parent's families. CHRISTENSEN and SOTHMAN.
My name is Karen, nee Christensen. I live in Missouri, near St. Louis. My dad was Richard Andrew Christensen, born in Omaha, Nebraska.
My dad's parents were Minnie Sothman and Ole Andrew Christensen, his father was Peter J. Christensen, all were of Danish descent. Peter J. immigrated to the US in 1875 and settled in Omaha, Nebraska, and was a blacksmith. I found a marriage notice from an Omaha newspaper that said Peter J's father was Christian Oleson from Denmark. Christan Oleson was married to Anna Christianson, also born in Denmark. I think Christian Oleson and Anna immigrated to the US and settled in rural Nebraska around 1870. Peter J. married Anna J. Anderson in Omaha on 27 Nov 1880. Anna J. Anderson's parents are listed as Andus Erickson and Johanna Jensen. I am not sure if Andus is correct or if it should actually be Anders and was a typo. I am having a very difficult time finding much info beyond their immigration to the US.
Minnie Sothman dad was Aug F Sothman born Aug 1857 in Germany but is in a 1900 census in Omaha. He was married to Lizzie Sothman born March 1860, perhaps in Wisconsin.
There is an old tale told in our family that Minnie's family and Ole's family were actually neighbors in the old country, even though one family was from Denmark and the other from Germany. This would not be hard since the two countries share a border, and up til 1920 Germany held land up onto the Danish peninsula. Since the border is questionable during the early years of Christian Oleson, I can't quite figure out where they actually did live.
I will share info about the Combs/Parrish side of my family at a later time. I have bits and pieces of info about all four families from my grandparents and my parents that I will be happy to share with those who are researching the same surnames!
