I would like information on the parents of James BURNS who married Ruth BASSETT at Gulgong in 1871. The marriage certificate shows the surname as BURNS but it could of been spelt BYRNES.

James's age was listed as 36 in 1877 shown on his daughter Bridget's birth certificate. It was originally thought that James's parents were Michael and Rose but this has been advised as being incorrect.

Try the Catholic portion of the Rookwood Cemetery; they sometimes have birth dates and parents. Who knows, they may even be buried close by.

a well-known identity of this district, died in Sydney last week at the advanced age of 78 years. Deceased had resided in the district for over 50 years, the greater part of which he spent at Beryl. Deceased is survived by a wife and the following sons and daughters: — Joseph and James Burns, late of the A.I.F.; Patrick, Samuel, George and John Burns;
