Maybe the S stands for Scarborough which is the Disrict name ... just a thought ..

Lythe is about 10 miles north of Whitby. They appear to have lived in Lythe and I understand Scarborough would be south of Whitby so as this is the Lythe Register I hesitate to consider Scarborough. Certainly I could be wrong, I never discount anything.
