Irish Geaney/Fitzgerald

Journal by marcii

Iam researching my husband's family from Ireland- a long shot I know. James Fitzgerald married Hannah Cronin in Tallow County Waterford. James was in the Irish Special Reserve Regiment.WW1 They had 17-20 children one of whom was Mary 30th November 1921 or 30 October
She married Patrick Geaney in 1941. His parents were Hannah Buckmaster and Patrick Geaney of Fermoy County Cork.
Their children were Andrew Joseph 1941
John Patrick 1943
Patrick Joseph 1945
Declan Patrick 1947
David John 1949
Angela Mary 1951
Paul Kevin 1961
They emigrated to Australia in 1959 aboard the Ss Orion
Mary died in 2003 in Redcliffe, Brisbane.Patrick their father died in 1988 in new Zealand.
I am hoping someone can give me some info. My husband is jealous of the new family I have found through Familytreecircles

I don't know if I'll be of much help but I happened upon this post and had to commment.
My name is Joanne Geaney and I'm from County Cork, very near fermoy as it happens, although im currently attending university in Scotland.

There is a long tradition of Patrick Geaneys in my family (my own dad included) and many of his cousins are also Patrick Geaney. There is a very strong possibilty that this was the case in the 1940s and even a chance that the Patrick Geaney you speak of could have been a cousin of my greatgrand-father who was (another!)Patrick Geaney.

At this time I have no way of knowing that this is definitly the case but I am going to ask my parents for they have a greater knowlodge of the Geaney family history than I do.

Good luck in your search, hope to communicate with you soon,
Joanne Geaney

That would be really wonderful. We have no leads whatsoever. It is like banging your head on a brickwall
