Yes, you can search several states - copy & paste web links

New South Wales Records -

Queensland -

Victoria -

The other states do not have searchable indexes

Yes - get an Aussie rootschatter to do a lookup for you. Rootschat register as a new user, free site, then scroll down to the Australia childboard.
