Hi Bubbles and Rosalie

Hoping you can help me, my grandfathers sister Eva Clayton married a George Pruden and I have been given a copy of the same birth certificate that shows James and Sarah as Georges parents.
My George Pruden born 2 August 1842 married Eva
Clayton in 1913 and is buried in the Tauranga Anglican Cemetery his death being on the 13 November 1918. Eva was 31 when she married and George 71 years old. They had one daughter Betty.
Is this the same George??????

hi everyone, my grandmother was gertrude/hagan and george and mary pruden were my great grandparents. i would love to have any information that any one can furnish. I know about eva clayton who married my great grandfather after my great grandmother passed away. there was a scandal in the family i was lead to believe that eva's mother persuaded george to marry her daughter eva and to legally adopt her three year old illegitimate child, after george died due to flu eva inherited the family fortune and there was a big uproar in the family. i have a copy of georges marriage to mary ann williams and he is buried a tauranga cemetery. he was a great artist and some of his paintings are on show at the turnball library in wellington.

George Pruden b 2/8/1842 Bethnal Green, London was son of James Calland Prudence and Sarah Bruce Ogier (Agier on FS site). James and Sarah married 9/12/1821 Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London (M055765). In Rootsweb BMD there seems to be possible childrens records under Pruden and Pruden (in Stepney and Bethnal Green).
They are:-
Prudence- 1/4 1838 Prudence John Bethnal Green
3/4 1839 Pruden William Bethnal Green
1/4 1840 Pruden James Bethnal Green
3/4 1842 George Bethnal Green

1/4 1848 Henry Stepney
Pruden-

3/4 1845 Martha Priscilla Bethnal Green
2/4 1847 Frederick Bethnal Green
2/4 1848

Pt 2 (not my own PC)

In order of birth they are:-
1/4 1838 Prudence John Bethnal Green (also record for John William Prudence-b Stepney)
3/4 1839 Pruden William Bethnal Green
1/4 1840 Pruden James Bethnal Green
3/4 1842 George Bethnal Green
2/4 1844 Alfred Bethnal Green
3/4 1845 Martha Priscilla Bethnal Green
2/4 1847 Frederick Bethnal Green
1/4 1848 Henry Stepney
Maybe Cen 41/51 will give more details

Eugene George Pruden m Mary Ann Williams 1863 as you stated.
Children of this marriage were:-
Letitia Mary b c 1866 Oxford, Waimakariri, Canterbury (cannot locate this birth)
m William George Jones 1892 (Hist Rec 1892/432)
d 1941 Wairoa, Gisborne
Gertrude b 1/8/1868 Waikiri, Canterbury
m James Patrick Edward Hagan 1892 (Hist Rec 1892/2157)

b18/3/1875 Waikiri, Canterbury
m No record of marriage to Hannah Elizabeth Bloomfield but childrens births are recorded under Hannah/Arthur. Confirmed in Arthur's war records together with a marr date of 20/3/1896 by Rev Clements Huise?
A Hannah Elizabeth Bloomfield m Arthur Fred Prindler 1897 so this may be record translated incorrectly.
d 15/9/1916 France (KIA WW1)
Female b1874 which may be that of George/Mary
Winnifred Ada b6/7/1880 Waikiri, Canterbury
m 1903 to John Dryden Webber (Hist Rec 1903/2349)
d 22/1//1961 Rotorua
Lancelot Harold
b 18/8/1882 Waikiri, Canterbury
m 1906 Eleanor Mary Belcher (Hist Rec 1906/4637)

'Waikiri' - haven't checked up on the spelling of this place. Could be Waikiri/Waikere/Waikare etc
Do have a list of chidren for the couples if you need it, other researchers may have better details.
I am not related to these families but teaching my daughter's friend how to search for her family. I usually search for the difficult ancesters that nobody else can find. She is descended from Gertrude/James Patrick Edward Hagan.

Other wives for George:-
2. 1913 George Pruden/Catharine Pegler (Hist rec 4474) with at least 6 children(this is if George has the name Ernest as well as Eugene)
3. 1913 Eva Clayton(Hist rec 1913/7142) - this ties in with the details given by the reasearcher who responded to your messages.
Before I leave - The parents of James Calland Pruden were James Pruden/Sarah Calland m 1/12/1794 Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London.M040801
Children:-
Sarah ch 10/4/1796 Baker St-Presbyteian, Enfield, London C068891
James Caltend(translated incorrectly) b 16/3/1803 ch 8/5/1803 Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London C0655761
Ann b 9/1/1805 ch 14/4/1805 Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London C040802
William b 6/8/1811 ch 15/9/1811 Saint Leonards, Shoreditch C040803

Sarah Bruce Ogier b 4/5/1804 ch 17/6/1804 Saint Giles, Cripplegate, London C025779

PLs let me know what other gaps you need to fill.

Now I will do my homework in Electoral Roll records to ascertain that George indeed had three wives.

Cheers
