- Leonard married Margaret Isabella 'Gertrude' Eleamor MORROW (1892-1965) in 1912
- Leonard served in WWI as Lance Coperal 24/1849 with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 3rd Reinforcements 2nd Battalion, F Company, embarking from Wellington 8 January 1916. His next of kin was his wife Gertrude c/o Mrs A. Waller, Te Kuiti. Leonard was KILLED IN ACTION 15 September 1916 in Somme, France aged 25. His memorial is at Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, Somme, France

10 October 1916 lance Corporal Leonard james Waller, killed in action in France on September 15, 1916 was the eldest son of Annie and the late james Henry Waller, of Te Kuiti. He was born in Westport, and prior to enlisting was employed by the County Council in Morrinsville. He leaves a wife and young family. Two brothers are on active service in France, and a third brother is now on leave from H.M.S. Pyramus, and is visiting his mother in Te Kuiti

His next of kin was his mother Mrs James Henry Waller of Te Awamutu. Alfred DIED OF DISEASE (Bronchitis) on 6 March 1918 in France aged 24. He is buried XXXI. G. 18., Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France

- Henry served in WWI as Rifleman 23/948 with the 1st Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, C Company, enlisting from Putaruru and embarking from Wellington 9 October 1915. His next of kin was his mother james Henry Waller of Somerstown, Te Aroha.
from Auckland Weekly News, 4 October 1917 "Rifleman Henry T. Waller, third son of Mrs. J. H. Waller, nurse, of Te Kuiti, has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in the field. Rifleman Waller, who left New Zealand with the seventh reinforcements, was wounded on September 10. He took part in the Somme and Messines engagements."
