my grandmother angelina tortorici came though ellis island at the age six in 1898. she was with her sister anna and mother joesphine. they were to meet their father nicola came over first to find a job with the railroad. they were from burgio,sicily,italy. they left new york and went to bywater,new orleans. they open a mom and pop grocery store and my grandmother pick cotton. at age fifteen she was the coalminer clothes to earn money and met my grandfather antonio who was a coalminer and love to gamble. they married in independence kansas. then they went to johnston city ill. and had three children mary born 1908, philip born in 1909 and nick born in 1913. they came to kansas city in 1917 and antonio digraci died of the flu. left with three children angelina married her first cousin jack radosta or rodosta. they had two daughters anita and joesphine.
