Richard William Phillips married Jane Gumbleton in 1871 in Wagga Wagga NSW. On his marriage certificate he said he was 30 and born in Sydney. His parents are Samuel Phillips and Maria Brennan.

Jane is the daughter of Henry Gumbleton and Jane Oxford who worked on Macarthur's farm at Camden and she was born in 1853.

Richard worked in the Railway and was stationed in Junee, Harden, Cootamundra and Murrumburrah. Their last child Arthur was born in Cootamundra.

We are unable to find a record of Richards birth and both Richard and Jane's death. Jane died before son Henry's marriage in 1904 and Richard died sometime between then and 1914.

Just a thought, it may be possible to find a birth record of your Richard PHILLIPS by contacting the NSW Railways to see if his DOB is in their historical records. I'm sure I included a link for NSW railways, just search for 'railway' or 'NSW' in the top right-hand corner here at FamilyTreeCircles.

Make sure you also register as a new user of RootsChat then goto their EMIGRANTS TO AUSTRALIA board. RootsChatters should be able to give you lots of tips. And it's good to spread some of your searches around as you will get lots of data/ideas.

Alison (QLD).
