Thank you for your comment Meredyth. In my family tree I have Maude Claire SHERIDAN born 1881 Dungog NSW daughter of William John SHERIDAN (not much details known by me) and Johanna KENNA born Ireland abt 1856 died 1930 Rockdale NSW. Maude Claire SHERIDAN married 1911 Waterloo NSW to Richard Herbert BROPHEY born 1887 Paddington NSW died 1948 Newtown NSW son of James BROPHEY born abt 1860 Mudgee NSW and Mary Ann KELLER born 15/6/1860 Market Lane, Sydney NSW died 1938 Glebe NSW.
My interest lies with the KENNA family, their ancestors and descendants most especially their connection with my CANTWELL family.

I see there are a lot of Brophys in Mudgee and Gulgong. My great great grandfather was in the NSW Army Corps and went to Australia with his brother. One brother retained the name Brophy and was living in Victoria Barracks in what is now Paddington, Sydney. The other brother changed the spelling to Brophey and lived in Glenmore Rd Paddington. I am told that he married a French woman from an island off the coast of Africa, probably Martinique. The Brophey name may not have any future members, As my uncle had no children and his father no brothers. I am told that my greatgrandfather (his son) was a master painter in Sydney, doing the special type of interior painting that was possible in those days. He was married to Maude Claire Sheridan, the granddaughter of an Irish deportee known as Dublin Jack Sheridan, who was for a time an outlaw.
It would be interesting to see how the NSW Brophys relate to the original immigrant redcoat that I have heard about.
